Tamko Shingle Repair: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
Tamko shingle repair in Orlando typically runs $325 to $675 for a small patch job, and $900 to $2,400 when water has gotten underneath and decking or underlayment needs replacement. We carry Tamko-compatible shingles and sealants on our trucks, so most repairs are done in a single visit. The way most Orlando homeowners find out they need this: a brown water stain on the ceiling after an afternoon thunderstorm, or shingle granules collecting in the gutter after a windy week.
Tamko makes solid shingles, but Central Florida is hard on every brand. The heat, the afternoon downpours, the humidity, and the occasional tropical storm all work against asphalt. And when a Tamko shingle fails, it usually fails in one of three ways: wind lifted it, the sealant strip lost its grip, or years of UV beat the granule surface off until the asphalt core started cracking. None of these fix themselves.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To
We repair shingles across the Tamko lineup, including Heritage (their architectural line), Heritage Premium, Heritage Woodgate, and the older Elite and Glass-Seal 3-tab lines still found on many Orlando homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s. The big compatibility gotcha with Tamko is color and lot matching. Heritage comes in specific colorways like Weathered Wood, Natural Timber, and Slatestone Gray, and a shingle bought today will not be a perfect sun-faded match to one that has been on a Florida roof for eight years. We account for this by pulling shingles from a shaded area of your roof when possible, or by blending new shingles across the repaired section so the patch does not read as an obvious rectangle from the street.
For identifying what you have: check the underside of a loose shingle or look at the packaging in your attic or garage. Tamko prints the model name on the shingle wrapper. The shingle itself will also have a distinctive look: Heritage has a dimensional, layered profile, while 3-tab sits flat. If you can’t identify it, Greg Holloway walks every roof himself before quoting a price, and part of that inspection is matching the shingle. We name the exact product back to you before any work is scheduled.
On OEM versus aftermarket: Tamko shingles should be repaired with Tamko shingles or a genuine equivalent. Mixing a GAF or Owens Corning shingle into a Tamko field is a shortcut that shows up as a mismatched patch and can void the Tamko warranty on the surrounding area. We mention this because we also stock GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed for their own repairs, but we never cross-brand a Tamko job to empty a truck.

Signs Your Tamko Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Ceiling stains or drips in one room. Water has already breached the shingle layer and is traveling through the decking or underlayment. By the time you see the stain, the leak has usually been active for several cycles of rain.
- Granules in the gutter or at the bottom of a downspout. Asphalt shingles shed surface granules as they age, but a sudden heavy deposit after a storm usually means a shingle surface has been scoured by wind-driven rain. That shingle is now thinner and closer to cracking through.
- Shingles that lift or flap in the wind. The sealant strip on a Tamko shingle has a design life, and Florida sun shortens it. Once the strip lets go, the shingle is just sitting there waiting for the next storm to peel it back.
- Visible cracking or curling at the edges. Repeated heat cycling makes the asphalt brittle. A curled or cracked shingle cannot shed water the way it was designed to, and it will get worse every sunny day.
- Dark spots or moss-like growth on the shingle surface. This is trapped moisture and organic buildup. It shortens shingle life and often points to a low-slope area or a spot where water is not draining off the roof cleanly.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here is what Orlando homeowners can expect to pay for Tamko shingle repair with us:
- Small patch, 3 to 5 shingles: $325 to $500, depending on roof pitch and access.
- Mid-size repair with underlayment replacement: $600 to $1,100, when the leak has gotten past the shingle.
- Repair with decking replacement: $1,100 to $2,400, when the plywood underneath is soft or rotted.
- Ridge cap or hip shingle replacement: $275 to $600, since these pieces are cut and installed individually.
The range is driven by roof height, how many layers are already on the roof, and whether we find decking damage once the shingles come off. Every quote includes the shingles, nails, sealant, labor, and cleanup. The price you get in writing before work starts is the price you pay. No change order at the door. And every repair carries our written guarantee: if it fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge, no argument. That is the 365-Day Done Right Promise from the Kingswell family of companies.
DIY or Call Us?
There are things you can safely do from the ground or a ladder, and there are things you should not touch. You can check your gutters for granules, look for shingle edges lifting from the ground, and note where interior stains line up with roof features like chimneys, vents, or valleys. Those observations help us diagnose faster when you call.
What we do not recommend is walking a pitched roof without proper harnesses, pulling up shingles on a hot afternoon, or caulking around a leak from inside the attic. A shingle repair looks simple from the ground, but a roof in Orlando in summer is over 140 degrees on the surface, and the sealant needs to bond correctly or the repair fails the same month. Most of the failed DIY repairs we rebuild are from homeowners who used roofing cement from a big-box store and thought it would hold through the rainy season. It rarely does. Call Greg at (850) 303-7235 and he will walk the roof and tell you what it actually needs. The estimate is free.
FAQs
A Tamko Heritage architectural shingle typically gives 12 to 18 years of service in Central Florida weather, which is less than the manufacturer’s ideal-conditions rating because our sun and humidity accelerate asphalt aging. If your roof is past the 15-year mark and you are seeing multiple failing shingles each season, it is usually more cost-effective to plan a replacement than to keep patching. Call (850) 303-7235 and we will give you an honest read on whether repair still makes financial sense.
Yes, a single shingle can be replaced when the damage is isolated and the surrounding field is in good shape. The question is whether the shingle beneath it is still intact. If the shingle above and the shingle below are both compromised, replacing one is a bandage. We will tell you which situation you have after an inspection.
Most single-area shingle repairs take two to four hours from setup to cleanup. Repairs that involve decking replacement or ridge work take longer, typically a full day. We give you a realistic time window when we schedule, and we show up in that window.
We stock common Tamko Heritage colors and sealant products on our trucks, and we can source any current Tamko color from local Orlando supply houses within a day or two. If you have an older or discontinued color, we will track down the closest match and show you a sample before installation. Call (850) 303-7235 and tell us the shingle color and approximate age, and we will tell you what is realistic before we ever set up a ladder.
