GAF Shingle Repair: The Orlando Owner’s Guide

GAF shingle repair in Orlando typically runs $285 – $640 for most single-area fixes, and our trucks carry GAF-compatible stock so most jobs are done same-day or next-day. We tell you the price before we touch the roof – and we mean it. Most Orlando homeowners discover they need a shingle repair the day after a thunderstorm rolls through, when they spot a dark patch on the ceiling, find granules collecting in the gutters, or notice a shingle flapping in the morning breeze after a windy night. GAF makes a solid product – Timberline, Royal Sovereign, and the newer HDZ lines are everywhere in Central Florida – but no shingle survives forever under our particular combination of afternoon UV hammering, sudden downpours, and the occasional tropical system. When one GAF shingle fails, the fix is usually straightforward. Letting it sit is not.

Which GAF Models This Applies To

This page covers repair work on the three GAF lines we see most often across Orlando roofs: Timberline HDZ and Timberline UHDZ (the architectural shingles that dominate suburban neighborhoods from Winter Park down to Hunters Creek), Royal Sovereign (the 3-tab shingle still common on older homes and rental properties), and the discontinued-but-still-out-there Timberline Natural Shadow and Slateline series. The compatibility question matters more than most homeowners realize. GAF changed nailing strip geometry and sealant patterns between generations, and mixing a current HDZ shingle into a 2012-era Timberline roof can leave visible color drift and imperfect tab alignment.

We match by pulling a shingle, checking the manufacturer code printed on the back, and confirming the exact color blend against GAF’s current production samples. For repair work of this scale, we install genuine GAF stock when the roof is under its material warranty or when an exact color match is required. For older roofs no longer under warranty, quality aftermarket shingles from the other manufacturers we carry – Owens Corning, CertainTeed, IKO, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral – can sometimes offer a closer visual match than aging GAF stock. We’ll show you both options, explain the cost difference, and let you decide. Tilehurst Roofing Orlando is an independent roofing contractor and is not affiliated with GAF.

Signs Your GAF Shingle Repair Is Failing

  • Granule loss you can see from the ground. GAF shingles shed granules naturally with age, but when you spot bald, shiny patches on the shingle surface – or stripes of granules in your gutters after a normal rain – the protective layer is gone and the asphalt underneath is cooking in the Florida sun. That shingle is now aging in dog years.
  • Lifted or flapping shingle tabs. The sealant strip GAF uses to bond tabs together loses its grip with age and repeated thermal cycling. Once tabs lift, wind gets underneath, and a moderate Orlando afternoon storm can tear a whole section loose. We see this most often on south-facing slopes, where the sun beats hardest.
  • Curling at the corners or edges. Curling means the shingle is drying out and shrinking. On GAF architectural lines, this usually starts at the tab corners. Curled shingles are brittle – a roofer stepping wrong can crack them, and they no longer shed water the way they’re designed to.
  • Water staining on ceilings or walls after rain. By the time the stain shows inside, water has been working through the shingle layer, underlayment, and decking for a while. The shingle failure may not be the only issue by then – wet decking rots fast in Orlando humidity, and repair costs climb.
  • Missing shingles after wind events. A missing GAF shingle is an open door for water. Even one missing tab exposes the underlayment, which is water-resistant, not waterproof. In Central Florida’s heavy summer rain, that underlayment can hold for a while, then fail suddenly – usually during the next big downpour, when you’re not home.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Orlando homeowners, most GAF shingle repairs land between $285 and $640 installed. The low end covers a small section – say 6 to 12 shingles replaced on a simple, walkable roof with easy access. The higher end reflects jobs where we’re replacing an entire slope face, working on a steep pitch, or where the decking underneath needs patching before new shingles go down. What drives price in this market is largely pitch and decking condition. A single-story ranch in Conway with a 4:12 pitch is a quicker, safer job than a two-story Colonial in College Park with a 8:12 roof and limited ladder staging.

Every quote includes the shingles, underlayment repair if needed, fasteners, disposal of old material, and labor. You get a written price before any work starts – always, no exceptions. And every repair carries our written guarantee, delivered before the crew leaves the property. If that repair fails inside the guarantee period, we return at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

DIY or Call Us?

You can absolutely walk your own roof (carefully, and only on a single-story home with a safe ladder and a spotter) to check for obvious damage: missing tabs, curling, granules in the gutter. You cannot safely install GAF shingles correctly without the right tools and experience, and here’s the honest truth – a homeowner repair that looks fine from the ground often fails within months because the sealant never cured, the nails were overdriven, or the shingle wasn’t properly locked into the course below. A botched shingle repair leaks, and by the time you see the leak, the damage has moved past the shingle layer into the decking.

Roof work on a two-story Orlando home is genuinely dangerous work. Falls from roofs account for too many emergency room visits every year. We’d rather you call us. Greg Holloway walks every roof himself before we quote a number, explains what he finds in plain English, and leaves you with a written price and a written guarantee.
