IKO Ridge Vent Installation: The Orlando Owner’s Guide

If your IKO ridge vent is cracked, lifting, or letting rain into the attic, we stock the compatible replacement parts on our trucks and can typically install a new one the same week you call. In Orlando, expect to pay between $350 and $650 for a standard IKO-style ridge vent replacement on a home with up to 60 linear feet of ridge, including the vent material, fasteners, and labor. Most homeowners discover the problem after a storm, when they notice water staining on the ceiling near an exterior wall, or when they see the plastic vent strip sitting crooked against the ridge line during a gutter cleaning.

IKO builds their ridge vents to work as a system with their shingles, and the failure usually starts small: a cracked vent lip, a pulled nail, or UV damage that makes the plastic brittle after five or six Florida summers. Once water gets under the vent, it travels along the roof deck before it shows up inside, which is why the attic inspection matters as much as the vent itself.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO ridge vent installation in Orlando covers the two primary vent lines we see on local roofs: the IKO Ultra HP and the IKO Armourvent Multi-Layer. The Ultra HP is a rigid plastic vent with a baffled internal design, and it is the more common choice on homes built in the last ten years. The Armourvent Multi-Layer is a flexible roll-style vent that sits lower and works well on roofs where the ridge line is not perfectly straight, which happens often in older Orlando neighborhoods where the decking has shifted over time.

Here is the compatibility gotcha: IKO vents are engineered to sit flush at the same height as IKO shingle caps, which are slightly thicker than caps from some other manufacturers. If a previous contractor installed an aftermarket vent from a different brand alongside IKO shingles, the height mismatch creates a small lip where wind-driven rain can push under. We match the vent to the shingle, not the other way around. If you are unsure what is on the roof, look for the IKO logo stamped on the underside of the vent section, or check the shingle bundle label in the garage or attic. We can also identify it from the ground in most cases.

For aftermarket options, we do stock quality equivalents when an OEM IKO vent is backordered, but we will tell you before the job starts which product we are using and why. GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed all make ridge vents that function well, but for a roof with IKO shingles, the IKO vent is the cleanest match.

Signs Your IKO Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing

  • Water staining on ceilings near the top of exterior walls. Ridge vent leaks rarely drip straight down; the water runs along the underside of the decking until it hits a seam or a nail, then follows that path inside. By the time you see the stain, the vent has been failing for weeks or months.
  • The vent strip is lifting or warping at the ends. Florida heat does this. The plastic expands and contracts daily, and after enough cycles, the ends pull free of the nails or the vent lip curls upward. You can see this from the ground with binoculars in most cases.
  • Granules from the ridge cap shingles collecting in the gutter. When a ridge vent shifts, it can rub against the cap shingles, accelerating granule loss right at the ridge. That grit in the gutter is a clue the vent and the caps are no longer seated together.
  • Daylight visible from inside the attic at the ridge. If you can see gaps of light along the peak when you’re in the attic during the day, the vent’s internal baffle or the end caps have failed. This means rain has a direct path in.
  • Higher attic temperatures than usual in summer. A ridge vent that has collapsed or clogged stops letting hot air escape. If your upstairs rooms feel hotter in July and the AC is running harder, the ridge vent is one of the first things to check.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Orlando, IKO ridge vent replacement typically runs between $350 and $650 for a standard single-story home with up to 60 linear feet of ridge. Larger homes with more ridge line, two-story roof sections, or steep pitches run higher because the crew needs more time and more safety equipment. If the decking under the vent has rotted, that adds $85 to $120 per sheet of plywood that needs replacement, and we will show you the damaged wood before we replace it.

Every estimate from Tilehurst Roofing Orlando includes the vent material, all fasteners, end caps, underlayment repair at the ridge, and cleanup. You get a written price before any work starts, and the price does not change once we open the roof unless we find something you approve in writing first. That is the Kingswell Way we have operated under since 2000, and it is not negotiable. We tell you the price before we touch the roof, and we mean it.

The workmanship on a ridge vent replacement is covered for a full year under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the vent fails inside that year, we come back at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check your ridge vent from the ground with a pair of binoculars or from a ladder, as long as the ladder is on solid ground and you never step onto the roof itself. Look for lifted ends, missing fasteners, visible cracks, or a vent strip that appears to have shifted out of line with the ridge.

What we do not recommend is walking the ridge yourself to replace or reseat a vent. Ridge work puts you at the highest point of the roof, where a fall is most dangerous and the damage from a misstep is worst. Many Orlando roofs have a 6/12 pitch or steeper, and after a rain, the shingles are slick. A bad ridge vent is an inconvenience; a fall from the ridge is a trip to the hospital. If you see signs of failure, call us at (850) 303-7235. Greg Holloway walks every roof himself before quoting a number, and he will tell you plainly whether the vent needs replacing or just refastening.
