Tamko Ridge Vent Installation: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Tamko-compatible ridge vent systems across Orlando, with most installations running $450 – $900 depending on the linear footage of your ridge line and the condition of the existing roof decking beneath it. In most cases, we can complete the job the same day we arrive, since ridge vent installation is a straightforward replacement when the roof structure is sound. Homeowners typically discover this part has failed after a roof leak near the peak, a spike in attic heat during a Florida summer, or shingles lifting along the ridge after a storm.
Ridge vent is the exhaust half of your attic ventilation system. When it fails, your attic stops breathing, and in Orlando’s climate, that means heat and moisture build up fast. We’ve walked plenty of Orlando attics in July where the temperature difference between a working ridge vent and a clogged one is the difference between an attic that keeps your shingles alive and one that cooks them from underneath.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To
Tamko’s ridge vent line centers on their Metalworks and Ridge-Pro systems, along with the Tamko Hip & Ridge cap shingles that finish the look. The most common version we see on Orlando homes is the Tamko Rapid Ridge vent, a 4-foot sectional unit with a weatherproof fabric baffle. It’s designed to sit along the peak and be covered by Tamko hip and ridge cap shingles.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know: Tamko’s fabric-wrapped ridge vent has a specific nail line and profile, and the cap shingles are cut to a matching exposure. If a contractor substitutes a generic cap shingle or mismatches the vent profile, the cap shingles can crack along the nail line within a year or two in Orlando’s heat. We match the vent to the existing Tamko shingle line on the roof, not just whatever is on the shelf. Tilehurst Roofing Orlando is an independent roofing contractor and is not affiliated with the Tamko corporation.
OEM versus aftermarket matters here. Tamko’s own vent is engineered to work with their cap shingles, and we stock it. There are decent aftermarket equivalents, but we’ll only use one if it genuinely matches the existing profile. When Greg Holloway walks an Orlando roof, he checks the shingle lot numbers and the existing ridge line before quoting, because a mismatched ridge system is the most common cause of repeat failures we see.

Signs Your Tamko Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
- Shingles lifting along the ridge line. The ridge cap shingles are nailed through the vent flange into the decking. When the vent degrades or the decking swells from moisture, those cap shingles start to peel upward, and you’ll see it from the ground after a storm.
- Attic feels noticeably hotter than outside. A working ridge vent lets hot air escape at the peak. When the vent is clogged with dust, damaged, or collapsed, the heat has nowhere to go. Orlando summers make this obvious fast.
- Water staining on ceilings near interior walls. Ridge vent failures rarely pour water into the attic. Instead, wind-driven rain gets behind the vent baffle and follows the roof sheathing down to the first seam, where it drips. The stain usually appears near the center of the house, not at the eaves.
- Visible gaps or cracking in the vent material. The plastic or fabric baffle breaks down under UV exposure and thermal cycling. Once the fabric tears, it sags into the vent channel and blocks airflow, and the whole system stops exhausting.
- Mold or musty smell in the attic. Poor ventilation means moisture stays trapped. In Orlando’s humidity, that trapped moisture turns into mildew on the underside of the decking within a season. This is almost always an airflow problem, and the ridge vent is the first thing we check.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Orlando homes, Tamko ridge vent replacement typically runs $450 – $900 for a standard single-story home with 30 to 60 linear feet of ridge line. A two-story home with a longer ridge or complicated hips runs higher, usually $700 – $1,200. Extra decking repair at the ridge, if the wood is soft or rotted, adds roughly $3 – $5 per square foot of affected decking.
Every quote includes removing the old vent and cap shingles, inspecting the ridge decking, installing the new Tamko-compatible vent, and finishing with matching cap shingles. The price you get is the price on the invoice. We tell you the price before we touch the roof, and we mean it. That’s a written line-item quote, not a phone estimate that changes when the crew shows up.
We also offer material options beyond Tamko when the situation calls for it, including GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, IKO, Atlas, and Boral, so you’re never locked into a single manufacturer if your roof would be better served by something else.
DIY or Call Us?
Walking the perimeter to check for lifted cap shingles or visible vent damage is safe and smart. Pulling up the ridge cap to inspect what’s underneath is where it starts to go wrong. Ridge cap shingles are nailed through the vent into the roof deck, and if you pull them without the right tools, you’ll tear the shingles and the vent baffle. Then you’re replacing more than you intended.
The job itself is not high-tension or inherently dangerous, but it is detail work. Every nail has to hit the right spot in the vent flange, or the cap shingles won’t seat. In Florida’s heat, cap shingles get soft and tear easily during handling. Most of the ridge vent replacements we do in Orlando started as DIY attempts that went wrong in hour two. Our crews handle this regularly, and the guarantee is in writing before we start.
Call (850) 303-7235 and we’ll schedule a time to look at the ridge line, tell you what’s needed, and hand you a written price.
FAQs
In Orlando’s heat and humidity, a Tamko ridge vent installed correctly on a properly ventilated attic will typically last 15 to 20 years. The cap shingles may need replacing sooner, around the 12-to-15-year mark, because the sun breaks down the shingle granules faster than the vent itself. The vent channel and baffle usually outlast the cap shingles, which is why we often replace both together.
If the failure is limited to a torn baffle or a short section of damaged vent, a sectional repair is sometimes possible, typically running $150 – $300 for a small area. But when the cap shingles are cracked, the vent material is brittle, or the decking underneath shows water damage, patching delays the inevitable and you’ll end up paying for the full job anyway. We’ll tell you which situation you have, and what each option costs, before you decide. Call (850) 303-7235 for an exact assessment.
A standard single-family ridge vent replacement in Orlando takes 4 to 6 hours for a crew, including removing the old cap shingles, installing the new vent, and cleaning up. Larger homes or double ridge lines can stretch to a full day. We give you a time window when we schedule, and the crew arrives within it.
Yes. We keep Tamko Metalworks and Rapid Ridge vent material, along with matching cap shingles, on our Orlando trucks. If the ridge line is a longer run or a special order color, we get it from our local supplier the same week. This is one advantage of the Kingswell family of roofing companies’ buying scale, we can stock seven manufacturers, including Tamko, GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed, without making you wait on a distributor.
